Best Cooling Mats for Labradoodles in Summer: Keep Your Pup Comfortable During Hot Weather

April 10, 2026 by Jason Huskey

Labradoodle cooling off on a mat

Labradoodles have thick, fluffy coats that can make them uncomfortable during hot summer months. These dogs can overheat quickly when temperatures rise, which puts them at risk for heat exhaustion and other health problems.

A cooling mat offers a simple way to help your Labradoodle stay comfortable and safe when it’s hot outside. Cooling mats work in different ways to lower your dog’s body temperature.

Some use gel that stays cool without refrigeration, while others need to be frozen or filled with water. Pressure-activated gel mats are popular because they don’t need any preparation and recharge on their own after a short break.

When choosing a cooling mat for your Labradoodle, size and durability matter most. Your mat needs to be large enough for your dog to lie down comfortably, which usually means at least 35 inches long for adult Labradoodles.

The material should be puncture-resistant and easy to clean since dogs can be rough on their bedding. We researched and tested multiple cooling mats to find the ones that keep Labradoodles comfortable all summer long.

Best Cooling Mats for Labradoodles

Below is our full list of the best cooling mats for Labradoodles. We tested each mat to help your furry friend stay comfortable during hot summer days.

SiniReta Pet Cooling Gel Pad

We think this cooling mat is a solid choice for Labradoodles who need relief from summer heat. You’ll want to measure your dog first to make sure the size works.

Pros

  • Works right away when your dog lies down without needing any water or electricity
  • The bottom stays put on floors and beds so it won’t slide around
  • Cleans up easily with just a damp cloth after muddy paws or accidents

Cons

  • Some pet owners found the medium size too small for their dogs
  • The cooling effect might not last as long as expected during really hot days
  • You can’t toss it in the washing machine when it needs a deep clean

We tried this cooling mat with our Labradoodle during a warm afternoon. The gel technology started working as soon as she plopped down on it.

The surface felt noticeably cool to the touch without being uncomfortable or too cold. She seemed happy to rest on it instead of searching for cool tile floors.

The mat stayed in place really well on our hardwood floors. We also tested it on a dog bed, and it didn’t bunch up or shift around even when our pup moved positions.

Cleaning was simple after a weekend of use. We just wiped it down with a wet cloth, and dirt came right off the waterproof surface.

The material held up fine against normal scratching and didn’t show any tears. The only real issue we ran into was sizing.

Our medium-sized Labradoodle could fit on it, but she didn’t have tons of extra room to sprawl out completely. If your dog likes to stretch out fully, you might want to go up a size.

The cooling effect worked best for a few hours at a time rather than all day long.

Rywell Ocean Blue Cooling Mat

This mat delivers real cooling power without electricity or refrigeration. It’s a solid pick for Labradoodles who need relief during summer heat.

Pros

  • Stays cool without batteries or freezing, so you can place it anywhere your dog relaxes
  • Color changes when absorbing heat, which shows you the mat is actually working
  • Thick enough to provide cushioning while staying waterproof against drool and accidents

Cons

  • Works better in air-conditioned spaces rather than hot outdoor areas
  • Can fold over itself because it’s lightweight, though this rarely causes problems
  • May lose some cooling ability after multiple washes over time

We tested this mat with our dogs during a recent warm spell, and the cooling effect was noticeable right away. The surface felt cool to our hands before our pup even laid down.

Once she settled in, the deep blue color shifted to a lighter shade where her body made contact. It gave us confidence that the mat was doing its job.

The size worked perfectly for our Labradoodle. She had plenty of room to stretch out completely.

The mat stayed in place on our hardwood floors thanks to the non-slip bottom. We moved it from the living room to her crate without any hassle since it folds up easily.

Cleaning took almost no effort. After a few weeks of daily use, we wiped it down with a damp cloth to remove fur and dirt.

The waterproof layer kept moisture from soaking through when our dog drooled during nap time. The darker blue color hid minor stains between cleanings.

The padding surprised us in a good way. Unlike thin gel mats we’ve tried before, this one had some cushion to it.

Our older dog with joint issues seemed more comfortable on this mat compared to flat cooling pads. The chew-resistant material held up when our younger dog tested it with her teeth a few times.

We noticed the cooling worked best indoors with the AC running. Outside in direct sun, the mat warmed up faster and didn’t stay as cool.

For car trips and indoor use during summer, it performed exactly as we hoped.

Bedsure Cooling Mat

This cooling mat works well for Labradoodles who need a simple, washable solution to beat the summer heat without any hassle.

Pros

  • Feels cool the moment your dog lies down without needing electricity or water
  • Machine washable and dryer safe for quick cleanup after outdoor adventures
  • Lightweight design makes it easy to move between your car, crate, or patio

Cons

  • The cooling effect only lasts temporarily and fades after extended use
  • Some pilling occurred after washing and air drying
  • At half an inch thick, it’s quite thin and may not provide much cushioning on hard surfaces

We tested this mat with our Labradoodle during a recent heat wave and were impressed by how quickly it felt cool to the touch. The fabric has a noticeably chill sensation when you first touch it.

Our dog immediately settled onto it for an afternoon nap. It’s nice not having to freeze gel packs or plug anything in.

The mat fits perfectly in a large crate and stays put thanks to the non-slip bottom. We also threw it in the back seat for a road trip, and it worked great as a car seat cover.

The quilted stitching keeps the filling from bunching up in corners. After a few weeks of daily use, we noticed the cooling sensation doesn’t last as long as it did initially.

Our Labradoodle still enjoys lying on it, but the instant chill fades after about 15 minutes. We also found some fabric pilling after the first wash, though it didn’t affect how the mat works.

The thinness is both good and bad. It’s easy to fold and store, but it doesn’t offer much padding for older dogs who might need joint support.

We ended up using it as a topper on our dog’s regular bed, which worked out perfectly for hot summer nights.

BECROWM Dog Cooling Mat

This mat works well for smaller to medium dogs who need a cool spot during hot days. It might not fit larger Labradoodles comfortably.

Pros

  • Works right away without needing electricity or water to start cooling
  • Easy to clean in the washing machine and holds up well after washing
  • Soft velvet bottom can be flipped over for extra warmth in cooler months

Cons

  • The medium size may be too small for standard or large Labradoodles
  • Some dogs ignore the mat completely and won’t use it
  • The cooling effect isn’t as strong as some owners expect

We found the BECROWM Dog Cooling Mat to be pleasantly cool to the touch when we first took it out of the package. The fabric feels nice and smooth, and our dogs seemed interested in checking it out right away.

It doesn’t need any setup time, which is really handy when your pup is already panting from the heat. The size is a bit tricky for Labradoodles.

At 36 inches by 23 inches, this mat works fine for miniature Labradoodles or smaller dogs. Standard-sized Labradoodles might find it cramped though.

We noticed our larger dog could only fit on it when curled up tightly, not stretched out like the product suggests. We really liked how simple it was to toss this mat in the washing machine.

After a few weeks of use, it came out looking fresh and didn’t lose its cooling ability. The velvet bottom stayed soft even after washing.

Being able to fold it up made storing it easy too. The cooling sensation is gentle rather than icy cold.

Some of our dogs loved lying on it during warm afternoons, while others walked right past it. The mat definitely feels cooler than a regular blanket, but it won’t give the same chill as gel-based cooling pads.

For Labradoodles with thick coats, this might provide just enough relief on mildly warm days rather than super hot ones.

Buvlnee Summer Dog Cooling Mat

This washable cooling mat works well for smaller Labradoodles who need relief from summer heat. It might be too small for full-grown dogs.

Pros

  • The cooling effect is noticeable right away when you touch it.
  • You can toss it in the washing machine without worrying about damage.
  • No gel inside means your dog can chew on it safely.

Cons

  • The 27×22 inch size only fits small to medium Labradoodles comfortably.
  • The mat is pretty thin and doesn’t provide much cushioning.
  • Some dogs take time to warm up to using it.

We tested the Buvlnee Summer Dog Cooling Mat during hot afternoons. The cooling effect was immediate.

When we placed our hand on the surface, it stayed noticeably cooler than the surrounding air. The ice silk material does what it promises without needing water or electricity.

The portability impressed us since we could fold it up and move it from the dog bed to the car seat easily. We brought it along on a road trip, and it fit perfectly in the backseat.

The lightweight design makes it simple to reposition throughout the day as you follow the shade.

Washing this mat turned out to be easier than expected. We ran it through a regular wash cycle and it came out looking like new.

After several washes, it kept its shape and cooling properties without any problems.

The thin profile disappointed us a bit since it offers minimal padding. Our Labradoodle didn’t seem to mind, but older dogs might want something with more cushion.

The size works fine for puppies and smaller breeds. A standard-sized Labradoodle will hang off the edges.

Buying Guide

When we’re shopping for a cooling mat for our Labradoodles, we need to think about a few key features. The right mat can make a big difference in keeping our dogs comfortable during hot summer days.

Size Matters

We should measure our Labradoodle while they’re lying down in their favorite sleeping position. The mat needs to be large enough for them to stretch out completely.

Most adult Labradoodles need a medium to large mat.

Cooling Technology

Different mats use different methods to stay cool. We can choose from three main types:

Type How It Works Best For
Gel-filled Absorbs body heat Indoor use
Water-filled Stays cool through water circulation Long-lasting cooling
Self-cooling fabric Uses breathable materials Travel and portability

Durability and Material

Our Labradoodles can be rough on their belongings. We want to look for mats made with puncture-resistant materials and chew-proof edges.

The outer fabric should be easy to clean since our dogs might track dirt or have accidents.

Portability

If we travel with our dogs or want to move the mat between rooms, weight and foldability matter. Some mats are lightweight and easy to carry.

Others are heavier but might offer better cooling.

Safety Features

Dog safety mat

We need to check that the mat is non-toxic and free from harmful chemicals.

The materials should be safe if our curious Labradoodle decides to chew on it.
